My Philosophy Inspiration (still adding to it)

My Philosophy changes on the daily. It all depends on who I work with, what kind of kids we have, full moon, the weather, attitudes, you name name it all. It is hard to put into words exactly what I feel. The biggest one I will stand by is RESPECT!!!! I will respect the children and they will respect the teachers back. If we can have respect then we can adventure and go off anywhere. Having the respect allows us to be able to go out an learn. Let’s go to the beach, forest or lake. Lets take learning out of the classroom.

Here are some of my co-workers take on philosophy

Hmm this is a good exercise for me – thanks Christine

I would say some of my overarching philosophy statements would be:

I believe children are valuable.

I believe children are worthy of respect and understanding.

I believe children are capable.

I believe Educators must be truly engaged and engaging with the children and families in their care.

Children will thrive in an environment that is supportive and encouraging. An environment that focuses on each child’s whole development (physical, emotional, cognitive and social), understanding that each child has unique interests and will develop at their own pace.

I should have added that I also believe Educators are valuable, and worthy of respect.

This point is hard for all of us.
I always think if you’re in this field its because you truly want to enrich a child’s life….its not like its the pay lol
Its hard work and not for the faint of heart. We don’t just sit around and play all day!!!! We are educators, mediators, nurses, imagination specialists, facilitators, adventure seekers…so many things at once

  • I also feel like my philosophy is ever changing and there is a fluidity within my philosophy. I am always learning new things in the work place or professional development that I implement in my practice. In the beginning I was feeling restricted by the idea of creating a philosophy. I was stuck on the part of the definition that philosophy is what you define yourself by. It felt like putting myself in a box with very little flexibility.
